Lily Allenの歌詞はおもしろい。痛烈なことを軽快なメロディにのせて歌う。彼女はイギリス人で、お父さんはコメディアン、俳優のKeith Allen。彼女はMy Space (Mixiみたいなソーシャルネットワークサービス)で自分の曲を公表し、人気が出た実力派である。２００６年７月にこのアルバムがリリースされるとすぐに、シングルSmileはＵＫチャート１位になる。北米ではこのアルバム１月３０日にリリースされるそうだ。歌詞付きの試聴ページを作りました。こちらへどうぞ。このアルバムくれた、義理の妹にリスペクト！

Lily Allen’s lyrics are amusing. She sings sharp painful things with cheerful melodies. She is from England and her father is a comedian/actor, Keith Allen. She became popular through her talent by publishing her songs on My Space. As soon as she released this first album in July, 2006, her single “Smile” reached number 1 on the UK single chart. 今日は久しぶりの快晴で素晴らしい朝です。先日、友達に薦めらていた Little Miss Sunshineを観ました。ニューメキシコ州に各自問題を抱える家族がいます。そこへ、長女のオリーブに美少女コンテスト、「リトルミスサンシャイン」への招待が届きます。コンテスト会場はカリフォルニア。1800キロの道のりを家族全員でボロボロバンで行くことになりました。その旅を描いたコメディドラマ。この映画、好きな俳優がたくさん出ています。Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Alan Arkinなどなど。

ウィキペディアによると、この映画はシドニー映画祭で評判になり、映画祭始まって以来の最高額１億ドルで、配給権利がFox Searchlight Picturesに売られました。そのせいか、この映画は今年のアカデミー賞のベスト映画賞、ベスト脚本賞にノミネートされています。またAlan Arkinは助演男優、少女オリーブ役を好演したAbigail Breslinも助演女優賞にノミネートされています。同カテゴリーで日本人でノミネートされている菊池凛子との戦いですね。暖かい笑いが欲しいなと思った時、この映画お勧めです。トレイラーはこちら。

We haven’t had such beautiful morning like today for ages. We watched Little Miss Sunshine the other day which was recommended by our friends. A family which each member has own problems was living in somewhere in New Mexico. Then, an invitation for a beauty contest, “Little Miss Sunshine” arrives to the little daughter, Olive. The contest is held in California. All of the members of the family decided to go there and headed for a 1000 miles journey by a worn out van. This film is a comedy drama which describes the journey. There are many favourite actors in this film, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Alan Arkin, etc.

According to Wikipedia, this film got a very good reputation in Sydney film festival and its distribution right was sold to Fox Searchlight Pictures for $10 million which was the highest deal since the festival started. Maybe because of this, this film is nominated for this year’s Academy – Best picture and Best Screenplay. Also Alan Arkin is nominated for Best supporting actor and Abigail Breslin who performed Olive very well is for Best supporting actress. She is going to compete with a Japanese actress, Rinko Kikuchi who is nominated in the same category. I recommend this film when you seek for some warm laughs. You can see its trailer here.

今年もDine Out Vancouverが始まりました。バンクーバー中のレストランでリーズナブルなお値段のセットメニューが楽しめます。今年は前から行きたいなと思っていたChambar Belgian Restaurantをトライしました。チャイナタウンとイエールタウンの間の人寂しい所にありますが、お店に入るとたくさんのお客さんでいっぱいの賑やかなレストランです。Chambarという言葉は、フランス語で先生が教室を去った後に子供達が騒ぎ出す様子っていう意味だとウェイターが教えてくれました。ノンアルコールカクテルも色々あって、私はアールグレイティベースのカクテルVesper Lynd（ボンドガールの名前のカクテル）を頼みました。すっごいおいしかった。夫や友人達は色んなベルギービールを楽しんでいました。料理は、前菜は私はえび、夫はスープで、スープの勝利。メインは私はビーフで、夫はムール貝でビーフの勝利でした。サイドデッシュに頼んだ、オリーブはやブルーチーズがかかったベルギー風プティンは美味でした。デザートのベルギーワッフルはアイスクリームが小さかったので、ちょっと残念。雰囲気やサービスが良かったので、また他の料理を試しに再来したいです。メニューはこちら。

It’s the time of Dine Out Vancouver again. You can enjoy a reasonably priced set menu of various restaurants around Vancouver. This year, we tried the Chambar Belgian Restaurant which I had wanted to go before. It’s located at a quiet area between China town and Yale town but once you are in the restaurant it’s noisy and packed with lots of people. Our waiter told me that the word Chambar means the state of a classroom when kids go crazy after a teacher leaves. They had various non alcoholic cocktails and I chose Vesper Lynde (name comes from a Bond Girl) which was Earl Grey tea based. It was excellent. My husband and friends were enjoying many kinds of Belgian beer. As for food, I chose prawn as my appetizer and my husband chose soup – the soup won. I chose beef for main course and my husband chose mussels – the beef won. Olives and Poutine a la Belge with lots of blue cheese, which we ordered as side dishes were delicious. The dessert, Belgian Waffle, had small ice cream which was bit disappointing. Since their atmosphere and service were very good, I want to go back to try other dishes. Menu is listed here.

ハイテク技術を駆使して殺人事件を解決する刑事ドラマ、CSI Miamiの再放送は毎晩どこかのチャンネルでやっています。私達最近この番組よく見ています。David Carusoが演じるHoratio Caine警部はクサすぎるんですが、かっこいいんです。Horatioのかっこよさを編集したものがYoutubeで配給されていると友人Mr. Sから聞いたので早速チェキってみました。

CSI Miami is always repeated on some channel every night - it’s a cop drama solving homicide by the use of the lastest high technology. We watch this programme quite often these days. David Caruso plays the main role, Lieutenant Horatio Caine. He is so cheesy but so cool. Our friend, Mr. S told us there are edited video of cool Horatio on Youtube. Che che check it out!

最近Of MontrealのThe Sunlandic Twinsというアルバムが私達のお気に入りだ。名前からモントリオールのバンドかと思ってたら、アメリカのGeorgia州、Athensの出身だった。ウィキペディアによると、Of Montrealって名前は、ボーカルのKevin Barnesがモントリオール出身の女性に失恋したからなんだって。音楽はアップビートなポップで、ボーカルのKevin Barnesが作ったメロディと複雑なハーモニーが素敵。Talking Heads、Scissor Sisters, Bell & Sebastianが好きな人はきっと好きだろう。1月23日にはニューアルバム、”Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer?” がリリースされる。楽しみだ。2月8日にバンクーバーでライブがあるけど、水曜日なので行けそうにないな。

We really like this album, The Sunlandic Twins by Of Montreal, at the moment. I thought the band is from Montreal by the name, but they are from Athens, Georgia in US. According to Wikipedia, the band’s name created by the vocalist, Kevin Barnes from a failed romance with a woman from Montreal. Their music is upbeat pop and the melody and the complex harmony which were created by Kevin Barnes are really nice. You will like this band if you like Talking Heads, Scissor Sisters or Bell & Sebastian. Their new album, “Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer?” will be released on January 23rd. I am looking forward to it. They are coming to Vancouver on February 8th to have a gig but it’s Wednesday night and I don’t think I can go.
