Good things in Vancouver

日本のパン屋さん、Keis Bakeryに行ってきました。あるある、日本のパン。アンパン、メロンパン、クリームパン、カレーパン。くるみアンパンおいしかったです。お店の人も笑顔で気持ちの良いサービスでした。　

We went to a Japanese bakery called Keis Bakery. There are lots of Japanese breads. Red bean bread, Melon bread, bread with custard cream, bread with curry. Walnut red bean bread was deliccio. The shop sellers served us nicely with smiles.



疑問なんですけど、タコの前にいるアニマルは一体なんなんでしょうね。いもむし？
My question is what is the animal in front of the octopus?  A caterpillar?

野菜畑に行ってきました。このコールラビという野菜を夫が植えました。よく育ち、大きいのを収穫してきました。調理方法が分からなかったので、ネットで検索してみると、「コールラビは直径２インチ（約5ｃｍ）ぐらいのものを選ぶ。」と書かれていました。が～ん。収穫されたコールラビは私の頭ぐらいあるっちゅ～の。調理気力喪失。小さいのはまだ畑にあるので、早く取りにいってきます。大きいのも勿体ないので、何か作ってみます。あと一つ収穫を楽しみにしているものがあります。さて、これは何でしょう。

We visited our vegetable garden. My husband planted this vegetable called Kohlrabi. It grew well and we harvested the big ones. I had no clue for how to cook so I searched the net and read … “You should select Kohlrabis which are 2 inches in diameter…” DOH! The harvested Kohlrabi is like the size of my head. I lost my cooking will. There are still small ones in our garden, so I should rush to get them. Not to waste, I will cook the big ones too. There is one more thing that we are looking forward to the harvest. What do you think this is?



答えは芽キャベツでした～。実際、芽キャベツがこんな風に生えてくるなんて知りませんでした。
The answer is Brussels Sprouts. Actually we didn’t know that Brussels sprouts grow like this.

    

一見牛乳パックに見えますが、ワインです。普通のワインは750mlですが、このワインは１リットル入っています（２杯分多いので酒飲みには朗報）。このワイン、コンパクトでとても軽いです。ボトルの10分の１の軽さだそうです。製造会社のサイトによると、パッケージがコンパクトなので、製造、流通、リサイクルにおいて、運搬用のトラックが25分の１で済むそうです。また, このワインパックはリサイクルが可能です。今回Merlot（右） $12.99　と Cabernet Sauvignon（左）$19.99 を試してみましたが、やっぱし値段の高いほうがおいしかったです。このワイン、フランス南部で製造され、他にChardonnay, Pinot Noir等の白ワインもあります。今度試してみよっと。

This looks like milk cartons but they are wine. Normal wine carries 750 ml but this one is 1 liter (2 more extra glasses of wine, good news for boozers). This wine is very compact and light. It weighs 90% less than bottles. According to the wine company, this compactness of packaging reduces the numbers of trucks used in production, transportation and recycling. It would take over 25 trucks filled with bottles equals to one truck of this compact package. The package is also recyclable. I tried Merlot (right) $12.99 and Cabernet Sauvignon(left) $19.99 this time. Of course, the more expensive one was more delicious. This wine is produced in the Southern France and they have white wines like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I would like to try them next time.

Guuの姉妹店Kingyoが10月13日（金）にオープンしたので行ってきました。店内はインテリアが凝っていて、オリエンタルな雰囲気がよく出ていました。竹の緑が綺麗でしたね。座席の配置も考えられていて、隣の客があまり気になりません。食べ物の盛り付けも一つ一つ変わっていて、目に楽しかったです。スタッフは店内をよく見回っていて、サービスも笑顔付きでよかった。こんな居酒屋さんが近所に出来て嬉しいっす。また来ようと思う。

Guu’s affiliate, Kingyo just opened on Friday, October 13th and we visited there. The restaurant had an elaborate interior and created Oriental atmosphere very well. The green of the bamboo was very pretty. Positions of tables were well considered and I didn’t get bothered by the other customers. Their presentation of the food is different in each dish and it was fun to my eyes. The stuff were giving lots of attention to customers and their service with smiles was good. I am pleased to have this Japanese pub in my neighborhood. I will come again.
