Good things in Vancouver

Jurassic 5のライブは最高だった,YO! 彼らのことを知ったのは、4人のＭＣの一人Chali 2na (チャーリー　トゥナ、写真中央後ろ）をRoots Manuvaのアルバムで聞いたことからだった。２年振りのバンクーバーでのライブは大好きな歌、「After school special」で始まった。 会場はノリノリのお客でごった返していた。Chali 2naは始終笑顔を絶やさず、お客とのコミュニケーションをとるすごいエンターテイナーだった。他のＭＣ、Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7evenと４人が歌っているのを見た時は、４人のＭＣのパワフルなリズムと声の調和にシビレタ。DJ Nu-markのプレイはターンテーブルが楽器みたいだった。Jurassic 5はの歌詞はポジティブなメッセージが伝わってくるものばかりで、Fワードとか全然言わないんだけど、「Freedom」を歌う前におもいっきり、”FUCK GEORGE BUSH！”と言った。ニューアルバム、「Feedback」も７月にリリースされるそうで、待ちどうしいな～。彼らの音楽はこちらで試聴できます。

今晩はFranz FerdinandとDeath Cab for Cutieのライブに行ってきま～す。

Jurassic 5’s concert was the best, YO!  We got to know them when we heard Chali 2na (the big dude in the middle in the photo) in a Roots Manuva’s album.  It had been 2 years since their last concert in Vancouver and the concert started with my favourite song, “After school special”.  The venue was surged with dancing people.  Chali 2na was a great entertainer, smiling and communicating with the audience all the time.  When all the 4 MCs, Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7even were singing, I was completely caught up with their powerful rhythm and harmoney of their voice.  DJ Nu-mark was playing a turn table like an instrument.  Jurassic 5’s lyrics are very positive and don’t say F word at all, but they said “FUCK GEORGE BUSH” before singing their song, “Freedom”.  Their new album, “Feedback” is going to be released in July.  We cannot wait!  You can listen to their music here.

We are going to see Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab for Cutie tonight.

飲茶にリッチモンドのKingford Seafood Restaurantを試してみた。点心は丁寧に調理されていて、塩っぱくなかった。レストラン内も清潔で気持ちの良いサービスを受けた。母と行って、二人で$24.35（約2500円）だった。中華粥もおいしかった。

We tried Kingford Seafood Restaurant in Richmond for dim sum. Their dumplings were cooked very nicely and not so salty. This restaurant was very clean and we received a pleasant service. I went with my mother and it costed $24.35 for two. Their congee was good too.

第22回Vancouver Sun Run 10KMマラソンに今年も出場しました。Sun Runはカナダで一番大きな１０ＫＭマラソンで、今年は約５万１千人が集まりました。私の会社チームは３度目の参加となりました。私と夫は去年より２分遅い57分でゴールしました。ちょっとトレーニングサボってたのが悪かったみたいです。母も85分でゴールしました。今年は天気に恵まれました。

I participated in the 22nd Vancouver Sun Run 10km marathon. Sun Run is the biggest 10km marathon in Canada, and about 51,000 people came to this event this year. It was my office team’s third participation.  My time was 57 minutes which was 2 minutes slower than last year.  I guess this was due to my laziness in trainning.  My mohter goaled in 85 minutes.  We were favoured with fine weather this year.

この映画とても楽しんだ。指輪物語に出ていたElijha Woodはアメリカンユダヤ人Jonathan Saforon Foerを演じる。Jonathanのおじいさんは第二次世界大戦中、ユクライナのホロコーストから逃れてきた。おじいさんは若き頃のおじいさんとある女性が写った写真を残して亡くなった。Jonathanはユクライナのおじいさんの古里を訪ね、その写真の女性を探すことを決心する。通訳として雇われたアメリカナイズされたユクライナ人Alex、運転手役のAlexのおじいさんとその犬、Sammy Davis Jr. Jr.の４人が旅に出る。コミカルで心温まるストーリー。

監督はThe Manchurian Candidateに出演していた俳優、Liev Schreiber。この映画は彼の初監督作品である。脚本も彼が書いた。味のあるユクライナ人俳優を起用し、美しいユクライナの風景を映し出していた。いつか行ってみたいな。

We really enjoyed this film.  Elijha Wood who was in The Lord of the Rings acted as a young Jewish American, Jonathan Safron Foer.  Jonathan’s grandfather escaped from the Holocaust in Ukraine during WWII.  The grandfather passed away leaving a photo of the young grandfather and a young lady.  Jonathan decided to visit grandfather’s hometown in Ukrainie to find the lady in the photo.  An Americanized Ukrainian, Alex as a translator, his grandfather as a driver and his dog, Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. accompanied the trip.  The story was very comical but heart-warming.  

The director is an actor, Liev Schreiber who was in The Manchurian Candidate.  This is the first film he has directed.  He wrote the screenplay as well.  Many fascinating Ukrainian actors were chosen for this film and the film showed beautiful scenery of Ukraine.  I want to go there someday.

バンクーバーに帰る途中、Bellinghamに立ち寄った。 ダウンタウンは古いアメリカの街といった感じ。Hilary Swankはこの街で育ったそうだ。バンド、Death Cab for Cutieもこの街の出身。休憩を兼ねて入ったワインバーはとても感じが良かった。

On the way home to Vancouver, we stopped at Bellingham.  The downtown looked like an American old town.  Hilary Swank grew up in this town.  A band called Death Cab for Cutie is from this town as well.  The wine bar we went in for a break was really nice.
