Good things in Vancouver

友達を呼んで、夫がディナーを作ってくれた。今回もNigel Slater氏の料理本からレシピを選んだ。チキンのマッシュルームとレモングラス炒め。めちゃ簡単なはずだったのに、めちゃ時間かかってた。。。けど、めちゃおいしかった。

We invited friends and my husband cooked dinner. He picked a recipe from Nigel Slater’s cook book again which was chicken with mushrooms and lemon grass. It was supposed to be super easy to cook but it took super long time …. but it was super delicious.

Mrs. Kがおみやげに牡丹をくれたので、写真に撮って壁紙にした。牡丹は彼女の結婚式のブーケを作った時に使った花の一つで、今週は３年目の結婚記念日なんだよね。おめでとう！

Mrs. K gave me the peony as a present. So I took the picture and made it as a wallpaper. Peony was one of the flowers that I used for the wedding bouquet that I made for her. This week is their 3rd wedding anniversary. Congratulations!

夫のハトコTちゃんと弟のTくんとボーイフレンドのPくんをディナーに招く。料理人は夫。６時からのディナーなのに、４時頃夫は昼寝をして余裕をかましていた。レシピは夫の妹からクリスマスプレゼントに貰ったNigel Slaterの料理本からタイ料理を２品、前菜にフィッシュケーキ、メインにエビのグリーンカレーを選んだ。Nigel Slaterはイギリスの新聞、Observer紙の料理コラムニスト。どうしてもベジタリアンになれないことについての彼の記事を読んで同感する。彼のレシピは作りやすく、おいしいのが人気らしい。もちろん夫の料理は６時に出来上がらず、招待客をキッチンに招いて飲みながら、料理をすることに。出来上がった料理は、マジで上手かった。

We invited my husband’s second cousin, T-chan, her brother T-kun, and her boyfriend P-kun. The cook was my husband. The dinner was supposed to start from 6 but he could afford to take a nap at 4. He picked up 2 Thai recipes from Nigel Slater’s cook book which we got from his sister at Christmas. The appetizer was fish cakes and the main was Prawn green curry. Nigel Slater is a food columnist of the British weekend newspaper, The Observer. I just read his article about why he cannot be a vegetarian and I agree. Apparently his recipes are popular for its simplicity and deliciousness. Of course my husband’s dishes weren’t ready at 6. We invited our guests to our kitchen and my husband cooked. The cooked dishes were seriously good.

Tちゃんはイチゴのショートケーキを作ってきてくれた。おばあちゃんから教わったというスポンジケーキはレモンの風味がいっぱい。すごい大きなケーキだったけど、おいしいので５人で完食してしまった。

T-chan baked the strawberry cake. The sponge cake that she said she learnt from her grandma was fulfilled with lemon flavour. The cake was humongous but five of us finished it all.

昨晩はNHLアイスホッケーの地元チームカナックスのプレイオフ試合があり、試合が夜の１２時半まで延長され、今日はバンクーバー市民は寝不足です。勝ってよかったです。先週の金曜日からイースターで４連休でした。土曜の夜はK夫妻にディナーに呼ばれました。イェーイ。おいしいご飯を作って貰えるのは嬉しいですね。おみやげにクッキーを作って持って行きました。前菜はじっくり炒めた玉ねぎ、オリーブ、アンチョビがのったパイ。お料理の名前忘れましたが、アンチョビの塩味と玉ねぎの甘さが絶妙でした。メインはガーリックの風味が効いたローストビーフ。付け合せはアスパラガスやスカロップポテト。デザートはニューヨークチーズケーキ。ミスターKはクリームチーズを１キロ使ったと言ってましたが、聞かなかったことにします。いつもどうもごちそうさま!

我が家でもハムをローストして家族を招きました。このハムは２年前にクリスマスに作って家族に好評だったハムです。母用にこのページに日本語でレシピ書きました。

他の日は公園で散歩したり、ウィンドウショッピングしたり。。。

We had a NHL play off game of our local ice hockey team, Canucks last night. The game went on till half past midnight and all the Vancouverites are sleepy today. I’m glad they won the game. We had Easter holiday from the last Friday for four days. On Saturday evening, we were invited at Mr. & Mrs. K’s residence. Yey! It’s always nice to be invited for delicious meal. I baked cookies as a gift. Their appetizer was a pie with toppings of caramelized onion, olives and anchovies. I forgot the name of the appetizer but the combination of salty anchovies and sweet onions was scrumptious. The main dish was garlicky roast beef with asparagus and scallop potatoes. The dessert was New York Cheese cake. Mr. K said he used 1 kilo of cream cheese but I decided that I didn’t hear it. Thanks a bunch always!

At our residence, I roasted a ham and invited my family. I made the ham at Christmas two years ago and my family loved it.

As for the rest of the holiday, we went for a walk in the park or window shopping …

妹と彼女のボーイフレンド、リチャード（コテコテの日本人）が夜ご飯に招待してくれました。ほとんどリチャードが作ってくれました。それもメインディッシュは予行練習までしたそうです。泣ける話やで。

My sister and her boy friend, Richard (pure Japanese) invited us for dinner. Richard cooked almost everything. Moreover, he rehearsed the main dish in the previous night. What a crying story.

妹作、チキンケバブ モーロ風串焼きチキン（スペイン料理）- 弟と夫は一人５串は食べてた。
Cooked by my sister, Chicken kebab Pinchos Morunos (Spanish food) - my brother and husband were eating at least 5 skewers each.

リチャード作、パエリア - 予行練習しただけあって、完璧な仕上がり。お鍋もわざわざ買ったんだって(T0T)。
Cooked by Richard, Paella - it was perfectly cooked, thanks for his rehearsal. He bought the pot for this dish as well (T0T).

リチャード作、アンチョビピザ - なんと生地から手作り。本人はもっと薄い生地にしたかったと言ってましたが、めちゃおいしかったよ〜。
Cooked by Richard, Anchovy Pizza - He made the pizza dough from scratch as well. He wanted to make thinner crust but it was very tastey.

妹作、グレープフルーツゼリー　 - くり抜いたグレープフルーツを使った、果汁１００％のゼリー。ベリグー。
made by my sister, Grapefruit jelly - she made this 100% grapefruit jelly from the grapefruit she scraped out. Very good.

今年も夫の妹がレシピを選び、イギリスの夫の家族と同じChristmas Mealを作りました。今年は夫が料理を半分作ってくれたのでとても楽だったです。私はデザートとローストビーフを担当し、夫の担当はButternut Squashスープ、ローストポテト、オニオンチーズプディング、その他の添え野菜などでした。妹のレシピ選択はいつも素晴らしいので、今年も全部美味しく、特にスープとデザートに感激しました。良かったら、作ってみてください。レシピはこちら。

My sister in law chose recipes again this year and we had the same Christmas meal as my husband’s family in England.  My husband cooked half of the meal this year so cooking was very easy.  I cooked dessert and roast beef, and my husband cooked Butternut Squash soup, roasted potato, cheese and onion pudding, and other vegetables.  My sister in law’s choice is always splendid and all the dishes were excellent this year.  Especially the soup and dessert were astonishingly good.  If you have chance, please cook them. このページで紹介した、木のお家。新しいドアノブとクリスマスデコレーションが飾ってあった。くすくすっと笑ってしまった。

I have introduced this tree house on this page before. It had a new door knob and Christmas decorations. It made me giggle.
