Good things in Vancouver

畑を借りて3年目になりますが、今年は気合入ってます。今年は、トマトに賭けています。買ってきた苗5本、自分達で種から育てた苗13本、計18本で勝負です。害虫、キスジノミハムシ（Flea Beetle）の被害にあいましたが、殺虫剤で撃墜。先週末はトマトフードをあげて、栄養を補給。これで暑い夏になってくれれば、トマトが鈴なり～♪と夢見ています。他にはえんどう豆、春菊、レタス等のローメンテナンス系野菜を植えました。

It’s our third year since we started to rent the vegetable allotment and we are eager in doing it this year. We bet on tomatoes this year. We have this game with 18 seedlings - 5 bought seedlings and 13 seedlings that we grew from seeds. We had an attack of flea beetles but we shot them down with pesticide. We gave tomato food last weekend and boosted their nutrition. We are hoping it’s going to be a hot summer and dreaming about crammed tomatoes♪ We also planted low maintenance veggies such as green beans, chrysanthemum leaves and lettuces.

本日の収穫は去年の秋に植えたにんにくと母の畑から採れたケイル。

Today’s harvests are garlic which we planted last autumn and kale from my mum’s allotment.

同僚の結婚式に行ってきました。ずっと雨予報だったのですが、当日は晴れ上がりました。式はリッチモンドにある、ミノルチャペルで行われました。1888年に建設された趣のある可愛らしいチャペルでした。花嫁姿の同僚はびっくりするくらいべっぴんさんでした。彼女は香港人なので、式は広東語と英語で行われました。

We went to my colleague’s wedding. The weather had been forecasted rain but it was a fine day on that day. The wedding ceremony was held at the Minoru Chapel in Richmond. It was a charming church which was built in 1888. My colleague in bridal dress was amazingly beautiful. Since she is from Hong Kong, the ceremony was done in Cantonese and English.

披露宴はレストランを貸し切り、２００人の招待客で一杯でした。次から次へと料理が運ばれ、12種類の品数でした。最後のほうはお腹が破裂しそうでしたが、おいしいので完食してしまいました。笑。食事の間、花嫁さんは３回もお色直しをしました。初めて経験したことは、みんなでお皿でガチャガチャ音をたてることでした。これが起こるごとに、新郎新婦はチューをしなければいけませんでした。

An entire restaurant was reserved for the reception and it was filled with 200 invited people. A dish after another dish came on a table. There were 12 kinds of dishes. My stomach was almost exploded at the end but it tasted so good that I finished everything. During the meal, the bride changed her dress three times. The thing I experienced for the first time was to make noises with chopsticks and plates. Ever time this happened the bride and groom had to kiss.

真ん中の写真、黄金の豚さんがレストランに飾ってありました。日本では今年の干支は猪年ですが、中国語では豚年と言うみたいですね。今年はスペシャルな豚年で、６０年に一回のゴールデンピッグな年だそうです。この年に産まれる子供はお金持ちになるそうで、中国や韓国では出生率が高くなるそうです。

The golden piggies in the photo were decoration at the restaurant. This year’s sign of the zodiac in Chinese astrology is pig. This year is a special Golden Pig year which only happens once in 60 years. It is said that the children who are born in this year and the birthrate gets increased in China and Korea.

今晩、お祝いしに行かなきゃ。。。

もう９月も終わりですね。
September is already going.

夫がナイキのジョギングシューズ↑とiPodとナイキのコラボレーションで作られたランニングチップを買ってくれた。このチップは、下の写真のように、シューズのなかに埋め込まれる。

My husband bought me a pair of Nike running shoes↑ and a running chip which is produced by a collaboration of iPod and Nike. This chip is inserted into the shoe.

このチップはiPod Nanoにワイヤレスで繋がり、距離、速さ、速度、カロリー等を計算する。また、これらの情報をジョギング中にモニターすることが出来る。走った後、iPodをコンピューターに接続し、ナイキのサイトにデーターをダウンロードする。サイトでは自分の記録が保存される。

This chip connects to iPod nano wirelessly and calculates distance, speed, pace, calories and so on. During your jogging, you can monitor these information. After running, you connect your iPod into your computer and downloads data to Nike site. It records your running data.

またこのサイトでは同じ装置を持つイギリス、アメリカ、カナダのランナー達の記録と自分の記録を比較することができる。因みにカナダ女性３０歳から３９歳の間で、今週の距離の部で２位になりました。これを見ても夫は、カナダにはよっぽどこの機会使ってる人いないんだと言っています。このランキングでは、自分の順位は出ますが、総人数は出ません。しかも現在は、自分の順位が表示されません、メンテナンスかなんかしているようです。ブーイングです。でもこの機械、アメリカでは45万個売れたそうです。１個30ドルです。

You can also compare with other runners who have the same device in UK, US and Canada. I came to the second in this week’s distance, but my husband said that there are not many people who have this machine in Canada. In this ranking you see your ranking but not the number of total people. Currently the site doesn’t show your rank, maintenanced or something. Boo! Apprently 450,000 of this chip was sold in the States. One chip costs 30 bucks.

この装置で一番好きなことは、運動後良い記録がでるとランス・アームストロングが出てくること。「ランス・アームストロングです。今日は素晴らしい運動をしたね。」と言ってくれます。最初聞いた時は感動しました。１０月にビクトリア・ハーフマラソンを走るのでこの機械、トレーニングに役立っています。

The thing I love most of this toy is that when I make the best record, Lance Armstrong’s voice comes at the end of my workout and says, “This is Lance Armstrong. You have done an awesome workout.” I was so touched when I first heard it. This machine has been useful for my training of the Victoria Half Marathon in October.
